Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted to be used as a preliminary data for intervention, prevention, and management of den-tal hygiene after analyzing correlation between the human need conceptual model and the plan of dental hygiene inter-vention of the job of dental hygienists.

Methods: The study participants consists of 40 peoples who have visited the oral health promotion laboratory of Honam University. They filled out a questionnaire for the human need conceptual model and carried out the plan of dental hygiene intervention by conducting an oral questionnaire, panoramic photo, decay missing filling teeth (DMFT), periodontal index, tooth surface-colored before and after taken, oral bacteria test, measurement of bad breath, and etc., with the incremental dental care program.

Results: On analysis of the correlation between the human need conceptual model and sub items of the plan of dental hygiene intervention, the oral prophylaxis was relatively correlated with pain, fear, DMFT, and hyperesthesia that are variables of the model, and the dental health education was correlated with whole body health, pain, hyperesthesia, and good impression.

Conclusion: When developing the plan of dental hygiene intervention based on the human need conceptual model, the den-tal hygienist should focus on the oral prophylaxis and dental health education.
